SCHENECTADY, NY – Following a back and fourth game, the Union College women's basketball team eventually fell to St. Lawrence on Friday night by a score of 42-37 at the Viniar Athletic Center. Union drops to 4-11 in Liberty League play with a 7-14 overall record, while the Saints improve to 10-4 in the Liberty League.

Per usual,
Jenni Barra scored the Dutchwomen's first points of the game by knocking down a mid range jumper. St. Lawrence pulled away later on in the first, but
Elly Vaughan drove down the lane to make a layup that put Union back up, 7-6, with less than four minutes remaining in the first quarter.

A behind-the-back dribble from Barra that shook a St. Lawrence defender resulted in Union growing its lead to three with 1:28 left in the first quarter. Unfortunately, Union found itself facing a one-point deficit be the end of the quarter.

An extra effort by
Nicole Conley to steal an errant St. Lawrence pass gave Union the ball, and Conley proceeded to post up underneath the rim and bank in a basket which gave the lead back to Union.

The Dutchwomen ended the first half leading the Saints by a point, with the score resting at 18-17. Conley had an impressive first half performance, leading Union in rebounds, assists, blocks, steals, efficiency, and average points per minute. Union shot 35-percent from the field during the first half.

Union grew its lead to 20-17 just four minutes into the third quarter after senior guard
Lily Abarbanel hit a nice underhanded layup. Union ended the third quarter up 28-25 following a strong rebound by Vaughan in-between two defenders, which was followed up by a layup that Vaughan rattled in with less than 10 seconds remaining in the third.

To start the fourth, Conley drained two free throws to push Union over the 30-point mark. Following some quick ball movement, St. Lawrence later hit a three-pointer that brought their deficit to a single point midway through the fourth quarter.

The fourth quarter saw a myriad of lead changes. The Saints took the lead with four minutes remaining in the contest after with a layup that brought the score to 33-32. Union then went back up by a point a minute later, courtesy of some Vaughan foul shots.

With the game tied at 37-37 with less than a minute left to play, St. Lawrence took the final lead of the contest and held off the Dutchwomen for the 42-37 win.

Union returns to the Viniar Athletic Center tomorrow for a 2 p.m. (ET) tip off against Clarkson.
