Union blanks Thomas for sixth-straight win

AUBURNDALE, FL – The Union College baseball team continued to crush the ball, as the Dutchmen posted an 8-0 win over Thomas College on Monday afternoon.

Strong pitching from right-handed started Josh Garber and solid performances to close the game by Charlie Hoover and Adam Hall helped the Dutchmen pick up their sixth-straight win to start the season.

Union got things going on offense right away. With the bases loaded, Colin Kelly hit a double that cleared the bases to give Union a 3-0 lead, only one out into the contest. Kelly then crushed a ball into the wind and sending it the right-field wall to put Union up 5-0 in the third. Kelly would end up finishing the game with six of Union's eight RBI's.

With a 5-0 lead after three innings, the Dutchmen recorded one run in three-straight innings before entering the seventh with the eventual final score of 8-0.

Garber threw the first seven innings, striking out three while allowing just five hits in 27 batters faced. Hoover pitched the eighth for Union, recording one strikeout in a three-up, three-down frame. Hall finished off the contest on the mound for the Dutchmen, striking out one and walking one in the ninth.

The Dutchmen finish off their spring break trip in Florida with a doubleheader against Franklin College tomorrow, March 27, beginning at 11 a.m. (ET).
