Dutchmen hang on to defeat Clarkson

POTSDAM, NY - Thanks to two fourth quarter goals, from John Edmonds and Sean Patterson, the Union College Dutchmen (6-1) managed to hang on to a 12-10 victory over the Clarkson Golden Knights (4-4).

With the win, the Dutchmen open Liberty League play at 1-0.

Union started the day with three back-to-back-to-back goals from Jordan Cooper, Hayden Frey and Andrew Blau. The Golden Knights didn't response to Union's early attack until the 8:38 mark. From there, Clarkson scored three goals of its own and tied the game up 3-3, heading into the second quarter of play.

Clarkson's Sam Groves scored four minutes in to the second quarter to give the Golden Knights their first and only lead of the game. Union bounced back from the deficit however, and again scored three unanswered goals to head into the halftime break with a 6-4 lead.

Scoring continued to go back and forth throughout the remainder of the game. However, the Golden Knights continued to hang onto its two goal deficit and force the Dutchmen to continue to work offensively. With 10:50 remaining, Union led just 10-8, but Edmonds and Patterson each scored a goal to pull away for the largest lead of the day at 12-8. Clarkson still pressed Union, as it scored two more goals throughout the remainder of the game, however it wasn't enough to overcome the victory.
