CANTON, NY -- In a heavily anticipated rematch, and Liberty League quarterfinal match up, the Union College Dutchmen fell to No. 19 St. Lawrence, 14-6.
The Saints did not hold back in the opening quarter of play, scoring six goals across 15 minutes and shutting Union out. The Dutchmen would not score until the 3:25 mark of the second quarter, when
Charlie McGovern scored unassisted and made it an 8-1 game. By the end of the first half, SLU led 9-1.Â
During the second half, Union settled in and slowed down the Saints' offense. In the second 30 minutes of action, Union and St. Lawrence each scored five goals apiece. However, despite a more even half, the damage was done and Union would ultimately fall to the nationally ranked opponent.Â
Jack Kaufman scored his second goal of the season in today's game.
John Edmonds and
Keaton McCann also contributed one and two goals, respectively.Â
Three of Union's goals were on a man-up opportunity, but SLU showed more overall strength, out shooting the Dutchmen 41-27.
Union concludes its 2018 season with today's loss, ending the year 9-6 overall and 4-4 in Liberty League play.Â
