Union ends season with OT thriller

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY – The Union College women's lacrosse team ended their season on a high-note, knocking off Vassar College, 16-15, in overtime on Saturday afternoon.

Union ends the season having beaten Bard and Vassar in the two final games of the regular season, finishing ninth in the Liberty League with a conference record of 3-7.

The game against the Brewers was a back-and-forth affair, as the two sides traded goals throughout the first half. Vassar claimed a 9-7 lead to start the second half, but the Dutchwomen would remain vigilant and never let their deficit grow too much.

The Brewers held a 14-12 lead with less than seven minutes remaining in regulation. Union then scored three straight, including two from MK McIntire, to take its first lead of the game with four minutes to play, leading 15-14.

Unfortunately, Vassar's Storm Sideleau scored with 37 seconds left in regulation to tie the game up and force overtime.

Union controlled the majority of play in the extra period, outshooting Vassar 3-0. As time wound down in overtime, Emma Lowery became the hero, scoring the game-winning goal with 48 seconds left on the clock.

The win caps off the four-year careers of seniors Cailin Pandolfi and Celia Condrick. Pandolfi led the team this season in scoring with 26 goals and 10 assists. Condrick was an anchor for the Dutchwomen on defense all year, leading the team in ground balls (39) and caused turnovers (20).
