ROCHESTER, NY – Senior captain
Jake Vesling threw a complete game, giving up just four hits, while the Dutchmen recorded 21 hits en route to start the 2018 Liberty League Championship with a 12-1 over Vassar on Friday afternoon.

Eight Dutchmen had at least two hits in the game, and
Sean Cullen lead the team going 4-for-5 (.800) on the day, while
Colin Kelly and
Sam Kirschenbaum both had three hits. Kelly went a perfect 3-for-3 which included one triple. Kirschenbaum went 3-for-4 (.750), which included one triple and one double as he led the team with four RBI's on the day.

On the mound, Vesling gave conceded just one run to the Brewers, coming in the sixth when Union already held a 5-0 lead. He struck out eight batters to record his seventh complete game and seventh win of the season.

Union got on the board with a lone run in the bottom of the first coming off a sac fly by Cullen. The Dutchmen then put up four runs in the fourth behind seven hits and two errors to take a 5-0 lead.

After Vassar scored its lone run in the top of the sixth, Union responded with eight runs over the next three innings to take the 12-1 win.

Union will now play Rochester in the second game of the winner's bracket tomorrow, May 11, at 2 p.m. (ET).
