TROY, NY -- The Union College softball team's 2018 season concluded this afternoon, with an 8-0 loss to the University of Rochester in the Liberty League championship tournament.
Union's postseason run was the team's first playoff appearance since 2015.
Rochester's Hannah Leahy allowed just four hits in a five-inning shut out victory over the Dutchwomen.
Rochester put up a six spot in the bottom of the second inning that quickly made things out of reach for Union. During the second, Union had an error and a fielder's choice play that allowed two Yellow Jackets to score. From there, Rochester's offense provided a sacrifice fly and two doubles to center field to plate four more runs.
Yellow Jacket Marissa Russo singled through the left side during the bottom of the third, scoring the ultimate go ahead runs. Union's offense was unable to get into a groove and Rochester eventually walked away with the 8-0 win.
Kim Puzo,
Makayla Koehler,
Kelsey Hartsoe and
Courtney Casey each singled during today's game. Seniors Casey, Nikki DiTizio and
Rebecca Kaufman each played in their last games as Dutchwomen this afternoon.
