Dutchwomen Battle in Loss at Lindenwood

MARYLAND HEIGHTS, Mo. — After a slow and steady first period, and having plenty of chances to score on the Lions, the Union College women's hockey team fell to Lindenwood, 3-1, on Friday evening.

 HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • After a scoreless first ten minutes, the Lions took the chance to score. Madilynn Hickey scored the first goal of the game off an assist from Megan Wagner to give Lindenwood the lead going into the first intermission.
  • Union had arguably the better play of the first period, outshooting the Lions by a 21-13 margin and creating a vast number of offensive opportunities to attempt to get on the board early. Senior Ava Reynolds led the pack in shots throughout the whole game, with nine.
  • Lindenwood continued scoring in the second period, with Gigi Pora scoring down the middle, off a pass from teammate Lauren Dabrowski for her first goal of the season. This goal, in the second minute of the second period, was the eventual game-winner in Missouri.
  • The third period started with a Lindenwood goal, with Casey Adimey scoring for the Lions to give them a sizable lead.
  • Union was hungry and wanting to leave a goal under their belts. First-year Olivia Groulx scored her first career goal on the power play for Union, making it a 3-1 game 7:32 into the third period.
  • Union and Lindenwood kept shots exceptionally close, with Union taking the advantage, 53-52. First-year goaltender Bella McKee made 39 saves in the game to keep the score tight.
  • Union falls to 0-5-0 on the season, and Lindenwood improves to 2-3-0.
