SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – Senior
Maegan Teets recorded a match-high 29 assists on Senior Day as the Union College women's volleyball team finished up its home schedule with a 3-0 (25-18, 25-12, 25-18) victory over Bard College on Saturday afternoon at the Viniar Athletic Center.
Playing in her final home match, Teets got the start at setter and had a good day, adding four kills on seven attempts (.571 hitting), two digs and a block to her 29 assists. Junior
Gillian Gore recorded 15 kills and seven digs on the afternoon, surpassing the 1,000-dig mark for her career and moving her to within 10 kills of 1,000 as well.
Fellow juniors
Katie Moss and
Lara Atalay chipped in six kills apiece as well, while
Kaylee Velasquez added a team-best 10 digs.
Union scored five straight points to take an early lead in the opening set. Bard managed to stay close, but the visitors were not allowed more than two consecutive points as Union cruised to a first-set win.
In the second set, Bard scored two of the first three points to take an early lead, but a kill by Gore got the serve back to Union and Velasquez proceeded to serve up 14 straight points, with Gore and junior
Julia Louis leading the way with four kills each.
The third set was the most competitive, with Bard scoring five straight points to take an early lead and then battling back to tie the score at 12. But five straight points gave the Dutchwomen some breathing room and another late run clinched the set and the match for the home team.
Union will close out the season with three matches at the Skidmore Invitational next weekend, starting with a 5 p.m. match against SUNY New Paltz on Friday.
