POTSDAM, N.Y. — The Union College men's soccer team fell behind in the first half, and couldn't recover, as the Clarkson Golden Knights earned a 4-2 win at their home turf in Potsdam.
The loss was in Union's final game of the season, and the last game for seniors Jeremy Conn, Salvador Lopez Jr., Ben Weinstein, Harrison Wenzel, Zachary Beyloune, Griffin Cowles, and Yasin Dombayci, as they finish their careers in a Dutchmen uniform.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- In a scoreless first fifteen minutes, the Golden Knights got on the board first. Henry Gomez passed the ball to teammate Kyle Jackson and shot high left to make it a 1-0 game in the 18th minute.
- Clarkson continued the first half out with another goal to increase their lead. Mack Walton passed the ball in the box to Erick Naula, who scored in the lower-left section of the goal.
- Bobby Guilfoil was taken down in the box, just a few yards from the goal and the Dutchmen were called for a penalty. Matt Adamou took the penalty kick, and converted it in the 40th minute for a 3-0 Clarkson lead.
- The second half scoring was started just a minute and a half in, with Clarkson scoring an insurance goal. Stephen Klimek followed up Gomez's attempt to score, and scored in the lower right to give them a 4-0 lead with plenty of time left on the clock.
- Union got on the board in the 86th minute. A short corner from Lopez Jr. provided Dombayci with room to score near the penalty box as he curled it to make it a 4-1 game.
- Conn was quick to give the Dutchmen another goal, volleying the ballout the air just 30 seconds later in the low center of the net to cut Clarkson's goal in half with just minutes to go.
- Union led in shots throughout the season finale, with a 19-12 advantage. The Dutchmen led in shots during the second half, 14-5, after being behind in the first half. Junior goaltender Trevor Krupp finished with three saves in the conference loss.
- Union ends their season with a 10-7 record overall and finished with a 2-7 conference record in the Liberty League. The Dutchmen finished the season ranked ninth in the conference out of ten teams.
