Defense backstops Union in 13-7 win

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The Union College football team remained undefeated with a 13-7 non-conference win over Utica on Saturday afternoon at Frank Bailey Field at Bertagna-Class of 1985 Stadium.

With the win Union improves to 9-0 on the season for just the seventh time in school history, with one game remaining in the season. Additionally, Ithaca lost its game to Rensselaer today, solidifying Union's sole claim to the Liberty League Championship. It marks the first time a single team finished as Liberty League champs since 2014 and Union's first out-right championship since 2006.

Summary
  • Will Halpin III kicked two field goals in the win, one in the second quarter and one in the fourth.
  • Joseph Ferreira punched in a three-yard touchdown for the lone Union TD of the day.
  • William Bellamy threw for 189 yards, completing 14-of-25 attempts.
  • Finn Duran led the Union receivers, catching four passes for 68 yards.
  • The 13 points is the fewest Union has scored this season, while the seven points allowed are the fourth time this season Union has held its opponent to a single touchdown.

Up Next for the Dutchmen
Union completes the regular season with the 70th Annual Dutchmen Shoes game next week, hosting Rensselaer on Saturday, Nov. 16. Kickoff against the Engineers is set for noon (ET).
