SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – A fourth-quarter comeback came up short for the Union College women's basketball team on Saturday afternoon, as the Dutchwomen fell to St. Lawrence University by a 68-52 score in Liberty League action at the Viniar Athletic Center.
Sophomore
Amber Raisner led Union (2-4, 1-1 Liberty League) with 15 points and freshman
Megan Lee added 12 points, while sophomore
Laura Vinton just missed a double-double with nine points and a game-high 14 rebounds.
Katie Frederick had a big game for St. Lawrence (3-4, 1-1 Liberty League), scoring a game-high 18 points on 8-of-10 shooting and grabbing 12 boards.
Union struggled to find the basket in the opening half, connecting on just 9-of-34 attempts (26.5 percent). As a result, the home team went into intermission on the wrong side of a 37-23 score.
The first quarter was relatively even, but St. Lawrence started the second stanza on a 17-5 run to gain a 31-15 lead with 4:10 left. Union did not score until a pair of free throws by Lee with 5:58 on the clock and did not hit a field goal until a three by sophomore

Down by 18 at 55-37 entering the fourth quarter, Union played its best basketball of the game to get back in the contest. Raisner had eight points as the Dutchwomen hit 8-of-12 shots on the way to an 18-7 run that got the home team within 10 with 101 seconds on the clock. However, SLU hit seven free throws in the final minute to increase the final margin.
Thanks to 53.3 percent shooting in the fourth quarter, Union finished the game at 36.1 percent (22 of 61) but converted on only 4-of-17 attempts from beyond the arc and only 4-of-12 from the charity stripe.
Union will return to action on Tuesday, when the Dutchwomen close out 2019 with a non-conference game against Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts at the Viniar Athletic Center starting at 5 p.m.
