CLERMONT, Fla. – The Union College softball team dropped a pair of contests on day two of the NTC Spring Games, falling 7-0 to Elmhurst College and 4-2 to the University of Chicago on Sunday.
Game One: Elmhurst 7, Union 0
The Dutchwomen managed only four hits off of Elmhurst hurler Bailee Krantz in the first game of the day, as the Blue Jays scored seven times in their final three at-bats to post a 7-0 victory.
Senior
Dana Dolinko limited Elmhurst to one hit over the first three innings, and almost escaped a second-and-third jam in the fourth with a pop out and a ground out, but a two-out single by Val Perrelli scored a pair to put Elmhurst on top.
Three more Elmhurst runs came across in the fifth inning and two unearned runs scored off of freshman
Rochelle Nuqui in the sixth to account for the final score. Dolinko (0-1) suffered the loss, allowing five runs on eight hits in five innings.
Game 2: Chicago 4, Union 2
Union scored once in each of the first two innings to take an early lead, but the advantage would not stick as Chicago scored once in the fourth and twice in the sixth to pull out a 4-2 victory over the Dutchwomen.
Chicago scored once in the top of the first inning, but Union responded with one of its own in the bottom half thanks to a two-out RBI single by freshman
Julia Boule that plated sophomore
Stuart Buxton.
After sophomore
Makayla Koehler worked out of a jam in the top of the second, Union again struck with two outs in the bottom half on an RBI double by Dolinko that scored freshman
Julissa Malana. Unfortunately, that was the last hit of the game for Union, as Chicago came back with an unearned run in the fourth to tie the game and then a two-run, two-out double in the sixth.
Koehler pitched well but did not factor in the decision, allowing one earned run on five hits in five innings. Nuqui (0-1) took the loss by allowing two runs in two-thirds of an inning.
Union is back for two more games tomorrow morning, beginning with a 9:30 a.m. matchup with Lewis & Clark College followed by a game against Hamilton College at 11:45 a.m.
