Dutchmen drop pair against Colby

AUBURNDALE, Fla. – The Union College baseball team lost two games to Colby College, 14-1 and 8-7, on the third day of the RussMatt Invitational Tuesday evening.

The Mules remained undefeated (6-0) after the two wins against Union, as the Dutchmen now fall to 2-4.

Colby College scored 13 of its 14 runs in the first four innings in game one. Union finally got on the board in the bottom of the fifth after a sacrifice fly by Joey Palko scored EJ Arnold.

In the night cap, Union played a closer game against the Mules. Despite Colby getting on the board first, the Dutchmen eventually took a 5-2 lead in the fourth inning, behind a single from Sean Cullen and a triple and a sac fly from Andy Labeck.

Unfortunately, the Mules battled back to take a 7-5 lead in the fifth inning. Union brought the game back within one run in the sixth thanks to a single from Justin Cabanas, but the Mules went back up by two in the seventh.

Labeck again helped Union score a run, this time with another sac fly in the eighth, but it would be the final run scored in the contest, as Colby would hang on to win 8-7.

The Dutchmen finish off the RussMatt invitational tomorrow, March 27, with games against Franklin and Middlebury. First pitch against Franklin is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. (ET), while the game against Middlebury is scheduled to start at 1 p.m.
