AMSTERDAM, N.Y. -- The Union College baseball team cruised to an 8-3 victory over visiting SUNY Poly on Wednesday evening at Shuttleworth Park.
The Dutchmen improve to 8-10 on the season with the nonconference win, while the Wildcats fall to 5-16.
Union strung together a total of 10 hits in the contest, and scored in all but three innings. Sophomore
Jack Koch led the Dutchmen in hitting going 3-for-4 (.750), while
Andy Labeck led in offense with two runs scored and two RBI's.
On the mound
Chad Salazar earned his first collegiate win, throwing the first 4.1 innings.
Adam Hall pitched 1.2 innings without conceding a hit.
Jay Masci pitched the seventh inning,
Christopher Bory threw in the eighth, and
Charlie Hoover closed out the ninth without giving up a hit.Â
The Dutchmen got on the board in the first inning thanks to a sacrifice fly by
Sean Cullen which allowed
Joe Ganim to score.
Jack Myers then hit a two-run homer on his first pitch to put Union up 3-0 in the second. SUNY Poly got on the board with a RBI single in the fourth, but Union responded in the bottom of the inning with two more runs, one off a home run from
Elias Kuhns and the second from anm RBI grounder by
Anthony Amoroso.
The Wildcats added another run off an RBI single in the fifth to cut their deficit to three, but Labeck hit a two-run homer to center field in the sixth and Koch singled to score Ganim in the seventh to put the Dutchmen up 8-2. SUNY Poly scored their final run of the contest on a wild pitch in the eighth to bring the final score to 8-3.
Union returns to conference action this weekend, April 13-14, with a Liberty League series against Bard. Saturday's doubleheader will be played at Shuttleworth and first pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. (ET).
