SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Union College women's lacrosse team fell behind early and never managed to recover as the Dutchmen dropped an 18-11 match to Skidmore College in a Liberty League contest on Saturday afternoon at Wachenheim Field.
Sophomore
Lindsay Gerrato and senior
Ramsey Walsh led Union (4-4, 1-3 Liberty League) with three goals apiece, with Walsh adding an assist for a team-best four points and Gerrato also controlling a team-leading five draws.
The game did not start well for the Dutchwomen, as Skidmore (8-3, 5-1 Liberty League) scored on their first three possessions to put the visitors in an early hole. Goals by Gerrato and senior
Hannah Rosenberger kept Union within three goals, but the Thoroughbreds scored six of the next seven tallies to take an 11-3 lead before Gerrato scored in the final seconds of the half.
The Dutchwomen scored four straight goals to get within six at 16-10 with 5:52 remaining in the second half, but the visitors could get no closer the rest of the way.
Skidmore ended the afternoon with a 41-28 edge in shots. Junior
Ellie Taney allowed five goals in 12:16 of action to suffer the loss, while freshman
Jenna Paszek stopped a season-high eight shots the rest of the way for Union.
Union will return to action on Wednesday, when the Dutchwomen host Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute for a 4 p.m. matchup at Frank Bailey Field at Bertagna-Class of 1985 Stadium.
