Union Moves to 4-0 For First Time Since 2015

KEUKA PARK, N.Y. – The Union College women's volleyball team improved to 4-0 for the first time since 2015 with a pair of victories on day two of the Keuka College Invitational on Saturday. The Dutchwomen swept Hilbert College to start the day before outlasting Rowan University in a five-set thriller to complete the weekend.

Union 3, Hilbert 0 (25-8, 25-10, 25-7)
Union was dominant in the first match of the day, hitting .588 as a team and limiting Hilbert to -.367 hitting in a three-game sweep.

The Dutchwomen put down 34 kills with only four errors on 51 attempts, which is the highest hitting percentage in a match since the team hit .633 (34-3-49) in a win at Bard College on October 4, 2013. Meanwhile, the team allowed only three kills on 60 attempts, the lowest total since at least 2012.

Junior Gillian Gore led the offensive attack by putting down 11 of her 15 swings (.667), pacing an offense that saw nine different players record at least two kills and nobody have more than one error. Senior Maegan Teets added a match-high 20 assists to go with two kills on two attempts, four service aces and four digs.

Union 3, Rowan 2 (25-23, 25-21, 18-25, 19-25, 16-14)
Union held off a hard-charging Rowan squad in the second match of the day, taking the first two sets before squeaking out a fifth-set victory.

Gore had a monster game for Union, posting a huge double-double with 23 kills and 21 digs to go with two aces and two blocks. Junior Steph Libonati and Lara Atalay both chipped in 13 kills apiece, while sophomore Jessica Siragusa had a huge effort defensively with 39 digs, tying for the most digs in a match since Veronica Mynders '10 had 43 against Skidmore College on September 20, 2008.

Atalay added 16 digs to her 13 kills for her first double-double of the year, while Teets also posted a double-double with career-bests of 36 assists and 16 digs.

Union again hit very well against the Profs, putting down 62 kills and making only nine errors on 208 attempts. (.255 hitting).

The Dutchwomen will look to keep the momentum going this weekend, when the team hosts Manhattanville College and Middlebury College for its first home tri-match of the year on Saturday beginning at noon.
