SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The Union College women's volleyball team dropped a 3-0 (25-19, 25-18, 25-19) decision to Springfield College in non-conference action at the Viniar Athletic Center on Wednesday night.

Gillian Gore posted her team-leading fourth double-double of the year for Union (5-2), tying for the match high with 11 kills and adding a team-best 12 digs and four service aces. Senior
Maegan Teets just missed a double-double of her own, recording 27 assists and nine digs.
For Springfield (6-1), Camryn Bancroft led the team with 11 kills on .588 hitting, while Sara Labadorf added a double-double of 31 assists and 12 digs. As a team, the Pride hit .287 on the night with only nine errors on 94 attempts.
The first set was the closest of the night, featuring seven ties and four lead changes. Neither team could get much of a lead for the first half of the set, with Springfield clinging to a slight 13-11 lead before earning nine straight points (including four aces) on the serve of Briana Tovar to take control. The Dutchwomen staved off five set points to get back within five at 24-19, but an attack error ended the set.
Springfield jumped out to an early 10-4 lead in the second set and the home team could never claw its way back, as the Dutchmen had as many kills (eight) as errors in the stanza.
Union had its best hitting set of the night in the third frame, putting down 14 kills on 32 attempts. But after the Dutchwomen scored three of the first four points, the Pride went on a 7-1 run to take its first lead and the home team got no closer than two points the rest of the way.
Union will host its annual Union Invitational this weekend at the Viniar Athletic Center, beginning with two matches on Friday. Plattsburgh State University takes on Williams College at 5:30 p.m., followed by Union versus Williams at 7:30 p.m.
