SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The Union College women's hockey team fell to Yale, 4-2, on Saturday afternoo at Messa Rink. The final score was not indicative of the game, as the Dutchwomen (3-17-5, 3-7-3 ECACH) skated stride-for-stride with the Bulldogs (11-8-0, 8-4-0 ECACH). However, Yale ended up capitalizing on more of its chances en route to the win over Union.
Yale scored two quick goals in the middle of the first period to jump out to an early 2-0 lead. Union stayed with it in the period and
Maia Martinez scored her third goal of the year after slipping an off-angle shot past Bulldog netminder Tera Hofmann with 5:30 remaining in the first period.
Neither team was able to find the back of the net in the second period, but the Bulldogs started off the third with a goal 2:51 into the frame. Yale later added its four and final goal at the 16:49 mark of the period.
Undeterred, Union earned a power-play with less than three minutes left in regulation. After a scramble in front of the Yale net,
Emily King got the loose puck and put it into the back of the net for her second goal of the season, bringing the final score to 4-2.
