CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — The first period was a tight one between the two conference foes, but a five-goal second period for the Crimson proved to be the difference-maker, as the Union College women's hockey team fell to the Harvard Crimson, 7-2, at Bright-Landry Hockey Center on Friday evening.
First-year Leah Herrfort and senior Rachel de Perio added to their growing point totals with a goal each, but their tallies weren't enough to stop the potent Crimson offense. De Perio and Herrfort continue to lead the Dutchwomen in points for the season, with nine each.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- 3:34 2nd (Harvard 1-0) | After a scoreless first period, the Crimson got on the board first, courtesy of Dominique Petrie. Petrie got the puck from Brooke Jovanovich, and score to make it 1-0 early in the second. Keely May was credited with the secondary assist on the game opener.
- 5:54 2nd (Harvard 2-0) | Jovanovich scored a goal of her own a few minutes later. The goal was short-handed, with assists from Kyra Willoughby and Petrie.
- 6:38 2nd (Harvard 3-0) | Less than a minute later, the Crimson got another short-handed goal, with Petrie adding to her growing point total on the season, unassisted.
- 11:09 2nd (Harvard 4-0) | In less than 8 minutes, Petrie collected the hat-trick, scoring an even-strength goal off an assist from Moy.
- 13:33 2nd (Harvard 5-0) | After two assists in the game, Moy finished the scoring frenzy, and collected her first goal of the game, increasing the Harvard lead to five.
- 18:20 2nd (Union 5-1) | To deny a Harvard shutout, Herrfort collected her fourth goal on the season, adding to her team-lead in points (9). Classmate Carmen Merlo was collected with her second assist this season on the play that got the Dutchwomen on the board with just minutes remaining in the second. Junior Hannah Schultz collected the secondary assist, getting her first point on the season.
