Video Highlights

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. –
Junior Jackson Mannix and sophomore Mike Concannon scored a team-leading 18 points each to lead the Union College men's basketball team to a 85-68 victory over Rochester Institute of Technology in a Liberty League matchup on Friday night at Viniar Athletic Center.

Mannix hit 6-of-9 shots and Concannon connected on 7-of-10 attempts to pace Union (11-6, 8-3 Liberty League), which moves into third place in the conference standings with the win. Junior Rhona Eseyade also had a solid outing on both ends of the court with six points, a game-high seven rebounds and two blocks in just 12 minutes of action.

Union jumped all over RIT (6-11, 3-7 Liberty League) to start the game, scoring the first 14 points of the contest, with Mannix leading the charge by scoring eight points. The lead grew to as many as 17 at 30-13 following a three by sophomore Chris Lovisolo with 9:18 on the clock, but RIT responded with 13 straight points before an Eseyade dunk ended the run. That flush started an 18-5 stint to end the period for Union, capped by a three from senior Kevin Jefferson that made the score 48-31 at the half.

The Dutchmen shot a blistering 56.3 percent (18 of 32) from the field in the first half, including an 8-of-16 mark from beyond the arc. Concannon led all players with 12 points, while Mannix hit 4-of-5 shots to finish with 11 at the break.

Union continued to build up its lead in the second stanza, leading by as many of 26 points after a highlight-reel dunk by junior Temi George put the Dutchmen up 70-44 with 10:10 on the clock. The Dutchmen cooled off from the field after that, but the game had already been decided – RIT never got closer than the 17 points that proved to be the final margin.

The home team shot 51.7 percent (31 of 60) from the field, including a 14-for-31 (45.2 percent) mark from beyond the arc. Eleven different players got on the scoresheet for the Dutchmen in the win,

Union will return to action tomorrow in a huge conference clash, when the Dutchmen host first-place Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute beginning at 4 p.m.
