Dutchwomen Can't Stay with the Ducks

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – Stevens Institute of Technology's Kyra Bednarski finished with five goals and six assists for 11 points as the Ducks defeated Union College by a 14-6 score in non-conference women's lacrosse action on Wednesday afternoon at Frank Bailey Field at Bertagna-Class of 1985 Stadium.

Junior Lindsay Gerrato led Union (2-2) with three goals, but it was not enough to counteract the 11 points from Bednarski. Freshman Sydney McPartlon added two goals for the Dutchwomen, while Hannah Condren provided support for the Ducks with three goals and an assist.

Stevens (3-2) scored the first three goals of the contest to take a 3-0 lead by the 10-minute mark of the first half, but the home team responded with two goals in 24 seconds from Gerrato and junior Isabel Bush to get back within a goal with 17:06 left. However, the final three goals of the stanza went to the visitors as Stevens took a 6-2 lead into halftime.

McPartlon started off the second half with her first of the game, but the Dutchwomen were unable to string together multiple scores to pull off a comeback. The home team could get no closer than five after another stretch of three straight scores from the visitors made the score 9-3 with 20:58 remaining.

Senior Bri Stout led the defensive effort with a team-high five ground balls and three caused turnovers, while Meredith Conlin recorded seven ground balls and seven caused turnovers to lead Stevens. Senior Ellie Taney and sophomore Jenna Paszek combined to make five saves in goal for the Dutchwomen.

Union is slated to return to action on Saturday, when the Dutchwomen open up Liberty League play against Bard College starting at 2 p.m.
