CANTON, N.Y. – The Union College women's tennis team got its spring season started on Saturday afternoon, as the Dutchwomen fell to St. Lawrence University by a 7-2 margin in Liberty League action at Newell Field House.
 
St. Lawrence (2-0, 1-0 Liberty League) took two of the three doubles matches to take an early lead. Sophomore Dana D'Onofrio and freshman Sophie Brown earned the lone doubles point for Union (1-2, 1-2 Liberty League), outlasting Katherine Apt and Haley Sherrard in an 8-7 (7-3) third-doubles victory, while senior Tal Pezzuco and freshman Marilena Karadimou came up just short in an 8-6 loss at first doubles.
 
The Saints came out strong in singles play, taking the first five matches to pick up the win. Freshman Monet Riseborough ended the day on a high note for the visitors, however, earning her first collegiate dual match victory with a 6-3, 6-2 win at sixth singles over Grace van Tartwijk.
 
Union will continue its schedule down south, as the team heads to Hilton Head, S.C. for four Spring Break matches beginning on March 22 against DePauw University.
