SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – Senior
Katelynn Russ of the women's hockey team was recognized on Friday as one of two recipients of the Senior Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award as part of the Union College Department of Athletics' annual year-end awards.
While the annual awards are routinely revealed during the Senior Awards Ceremony on the weekend prior to graduation, the COVID-19 pandemic has necessitated a virtual process that will give all deserving award winners their own spotlight.
The Senior Scholar Athlete of the Year Award is presented to a senior student-athlete for outstanding performance in the classroom, community and playing arena. Russ completed her stellar four-year career as one of the top players in Union women's hockey history. She led the team in goals for the third straight year as a senior and finished her career third in program history in goals and fourth in points, including the second-best totals in both categories during the program's Division I era. A member of the Tau Beta Pi Engineering Honor Society, she boasts a 3.60 GPA as a biomedical engineering major and earned a Smith Research Fellowship for her patent-pending tracheostomy research.
