Dutchwomen Fall to Terriers, 4-1

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The Union College women's hockey team hosted Boston University in a non-conference contest on Saturday afternoon at Messa Rink. The Dutchwomen jumped out to an early lead, but the Terriers battled back for a 4-1 win.

Senior Grace Heiting got the scoring started on the opening shift of the contest, when she singlehandedly took on the Terrier defense and scored. Union went for a line change but Heiting remained on the ice along with five BU skaters, as she continued to skate up the ice and after a nice toe drag around the defender she whipped a shot into the back of the net for her third goal of the season. Junior Emily King and senior Cassidy Michalicka were credited with the assists on the play.

BU bounced back later in the frame, scoring at the 16:28 mark of the first period to even things up. Union outshot Boston University 9-7 in the opening period.

Neither team found the net for almost the entirety of the second period, but the Terriers took the lead with 25 seconds left in the period thanks to a shorthanded tally by Courtney Correia to take the lead with what was the eventual game-winner. BU out shot Union 10-7 for the period.

Union had a couple of great chances in the third period but nothing found the back of the net. BU scored twice in the third to put the game away, including the fourth goal into an empty net.

Union finished the game outshooting BU by a 26-25 margin, but the Dutchwomen could not convert on six power-play opportunities. Sophomore Olivia Rinzel finished the afternoon with 21 saves for Union.

Union (2-6-1, 0-2-0) will continue its homestand by hosting Clarkson University on Friday for a 3 p.m. game at Messa Rink.
