Union Falls to Ithaca in Liberty League Semis, 3-0

GENEVA, N.Y. – The Union College women's soccer team's season came to an end in the semifinals of the Liberty League Tournament on Saturday afternoon, as the third-seeded Dutchwomen dropped a 3-0 match to second-seeded Ithaca College at William Smith College's Cozzens Field.

Ithaca got the scoring started in the first half when the Bombers found the back of the net off a corner kick. The ball came through the box and was knocked in by Kelsey Espenhorst. Ithaca extended its lead to two in the 34th minute, when Espenhorst tallied her second goal of the afternoon. She found the top left corner to make it 2-0 Ithaca. Union was outshot 10-6 in the first half.

Ithaca added a third goal in the 60th minute when Espenhorst completed her hat trick. Union was out shot 3-2 in the second half and 13-8 for the game, but both teams put six shots on target over the 90 minutes. Junior goalie Abby Mitty made three saves in the effort for Union.

Union finishes the year with a record of 9-8-2 and a third-place finish in the Liberty League, reaching the conference semifinals for the first time since 2016.
