Adams’ Multi-Point Game Propels Union Past Dartmouth

Hanover, N.H. – First-year Ashley Adams scored a goal and added an assist for the Union College women's hockey team in their 2-1 win over Dartmouth College Saturday afternoon at Thompson Arena. This was Union's first win over a conference opponent this season.

After a scoreless first period, first-year goal tender Sophie Matsoukas made three huge saves on a partial breakaway and a 2 on 1 to keep Union in the game. Following the saves from Matsoukas, senior Grace Heiting found the back of the net on a net front scramble. This was Heiting's seventh goal of the year. Adams and senior Maia Martinez added assists on the goal. Union was out shot 11-9 in the second period.

In the third period Adams extended the Dutchwomen lead at the 4:06 mark of the third period. This become the eventual game winner. This was her second goal of the season. Adams also was a perfect 7-7 from the face off circle.  Dartmouth cut the Union lead in half on the power-play. Dartmouth continued to bring pressure but failed to find the back of the net. Union was out shot 20-3 in the third period.

For Matsoukas this game marks her first collegiate win and a new season high in saves with 39, her previous high was 38.

Union gets back on the ice against Franklin Peirce on Friday evening, December 10th, at Messa Rink. Puck drop is scheduled for 6 p.m.
