POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The Union College women's tennis team traveled to Poughkeepsie to battle with Vassar College on Wednesday afternoon, getting eight matches in before the rains came at the Josselyn Courts. Vassar posted a 6-2 victory over Union in the Liberty League matchup.
Doubles played out exactly the same way as Saturday's match did, with the Brewers taking two of the three points. The lone Union point again came at third doubles, with the tandem of senior
Cathy Xing and first-year
Gracie Nicol defeating Sara Ehnstrom and Nicole Pihlstrom by an 8-2 score.
The Dutchwomen came close in multiple singles matches, but the team's only victory came from Xing at sixth singles with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Pihlstrom. Sophomore
Sophie Brown fell in a first-set tiebreaker in her match with Sofie Shen, while classmate
Marilena Karadimou came up one break short in the second set of her match with Melina Stavropoulos.
Senior
Megan Brown's first-singles match was halted due to rain, with Brown leading the second set 3-2 after dropping the first, 7-5.
Union will close out the regular season with two matches against Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute this weekend, beginning on Friday afternoon in Troy at 4 p.m.
