Women's Tennis Can't Get Past RPI in Season Finale

TROY, N.Y. – The Union College women's tennis team finished up the 2020-21 season on Sunday, dropping a rain-shortened 5-1 non-conference match to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute at RPI's Sharp Courts.

After coming points away from pulling off the upset yesterday, Union did not have the same luck in today's season finale. RPI started the day strong by taking all three doubles matches, although senior Megan Brown and sophomore Marilena Karadimou came two points short of a win at second doubles in an 8-7 (8-6) defeat.

Just as they did yesterday, Brown and Rani Jones needed more than two sets to determine a winner in their first-singles match, with Jones edging Brown in a third-set supertiebreaker, 12-10.

Sophomore Sophie Brown was leading 5-2 in her fifth singles match when the contest was halted early due to rain.

Sunday's contest marked the final collegiate match for Union's three seniors: Brown, Samantha Siegel and Cathy Xing. Union finished the shortened 2021 spring season with a 2-5 (2-4 Liberty League) record.
