SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The Union College men's tennis team got its 2021-22 Liberty League slate off to a good start on Wednesday afternoon, as the Dutchmen cruised to an 8-1 victory over Bard College at the Union Tennis Courts.
Playing in its first dual match of the season, Union (1-0, 1-0 Liberty League) saw nine different players pick up at least one victory on the day, led by senior
Jack Andre and first-year
Kurtik Appadoo with two wins apiece.
The home team dropped a combined five games in the three doubles victories to take an early lead. Junior
Thomas McGuire and sophomore
Bailey McAtee swept their second-doubles match to start the scoring, followed closely by Appadoo and classmate
Ian Schunk with an 8-1 win at the third flight. Andre and first-year
Seth Prusko completed the doubles sweep with an 8-4 victory at the top flight.
Senior
Temi George and sophomore
Khai Ton earned their first career dual match victories to seal the victory for Union, as George dropped one game in a 6-0, 6-1 win over Kai O'Donnell at third singles before Ton completed his 6-1, 6-1 win over Drew Soleiman at the second flight.
First-years
Austin Gregory and
Kurtik Appadoo both earned their first collegiate dual match victories a well for Union on the day. Gregory cruised past Jack La Piana in a 6-1, 6-0 fourth-singles win, while Appadoo did not drop a game in a sweep of Oliver Allen in fifth-singles action. Andre earned Union's eighth point with a double-bagel win over Augustin Johnson at sixth singles.
Union will finish off its abbreviated fall schedule at the ITA Northeast Regionals, beginning on October 1 in Geneva.
