Farr Tallies Three Points As Union Cruises Past Bard 3-0

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – Senior Evan Farr scored just 17 seconds into the contest and the Union College men's soccer team cruised to a 3-0 win over Liberty League opponent Bard College on Wednesday evening from College Park Field.

Farr scored and added an assist, while juniors Kurt Mahlke and Robbie Michalski also found the back of the net for the Dutchmen. Classmate Luca Richo added an assist on Mahlke's goal. First-year Grant Della Rocca added an assist as well.

Union scored right off the jump. Following a turnover from the Raptors off the kick off, Della Rocca sent a ball to Farr. Farr grabbed the loose ball and dribbled into the offensive half and from 40 yards out took a shot that caught the goal keeper out of position. This was Farr's fifth goal of the season and became the eventual game winner for Union.

The Dutchmen doubled their lead just 90 seconds later following a corner kick. Richo took the corner and lifted the cross to the back post where Mahlke was positioned. Mahlke won the head ball and his shot found the back of the net to make it a 2-0 lead just two minutes in. This was his first goal of the season and of his college career.

Union sent nine shots on net and outshot the Raptors 9-6 in the first half. Junior Sean Speck made one stop in the first half. Union edged out Bard 4-3 in corner opportunities.

Union kept up their pressure into the second half, outshooting Bard 17-2 in the second half. Union carried play for the majority of the half and sent nine shots on frame. Michalski finished off the Raptors with his sixth goal of the season in the 86th minute. Farr carried the ball across midfield and then made a great feed to Michalski for a breakaway chance, with Michalski beating the goalie to the right side into the open goal to make it 3-0 Union.

Speak earned the win with his effort. First-year Aidan Savitt made his first appearance of the season in the second half as well.

The Dutchmen will play their final game of the 2022 season on Saturday afternoon when they honor their four seniors against the Tigers of RIT. Kick off from College Park Field is set for 2 p.m.
