Farr Scores As Union Falls to RPI 2-1

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – Senior Evan Farr scored in the first half to tie the game at 1-1 for the Union College men's soccer team. The Dutchmen fell 2-1 to Liberty League rival RPI on Saturday afternoon from College Park Field.

Farr scored his third goal of the season and seniors Christian Rufo and Nate Boule tallied assists on the Dutchmen's lone goal of the afternoon.

The Engineers found the back of the net in the 13th minute on an initial head ball that hit the cross bar and the loose ball bounced around before finding the back of the net. This gave RPI a 1-0 lead.

Union responded well and picked up the pressure. They were rewarded with their efforts in the 31st minute. Boule settled a failed clear from RPI before passing to Rufo who one timed the pass through the box and found the foot of Farr. Farr sliding, was able to deflect pass the RPI goal tender and into the back of the net to even things at 1. Union was out shot 3-2 in the half and RPI held a 4-3 corner kick advantage.

In the second half RPI jumped back ahead on a quick restart following a foul. They lifted a cross into the box that found an Engineer's head and gave themselves a 2-1 lead. Union gained control of much of the position in the remaining 20 minutes, but were unable to find the back of the net to even things up.

Union fell 2-1 to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Union was out shot by a narrow margin of 7-6. Junior Sean Speck made four saves on six shots in the effort.

Union will continue Liberty League play as they pay a visit to Geneva, N.Y. for a Friday afternoon game against Hobart. Kick off for Friday's game is at 4 p.m.
