Beaudoin Scores Twice As Union Comes From Behind to Tie Harvard, 2-2

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – Junior Celeste Beaudoin scored both goals for the Union College women's hockey team as they came back from 2-0 to tie Harvard University 2-2 on Friday evening from Messa Rink. The Dutchwomen earned their first points in ECAC play with the 2-2 tie over Harvard.

Beaudoin was excellent for the Dutchwomen in this one. Beaudoin found the back of the net in the second and third period to pull Union even in the game. Beaudoin was also Union's best skater from the face off circle, winning 7-20 draws that she took.

First-year Riley Walsh chipped in with a pair of assists on Beaudoin's goals. Junior Allison Smith and sophomore Ashley Adams each tallied an assist as well. Sophomore netminder Sophie Matsoukas stopped 28 of 30 shots in the game, including four in overtime to preserve a 2-2 tie.

After a strong first 10 minutes for the Dutchwomen, the Crimson, found themselves with a Union turnover at their own offensive zone. They quickly transitioned to offense and Gabi Davidson Adams beat Matsoukas over her right shoulder for a 1-0 lead. Union out shot Harvard 9-7 in the period, but trailed 1-0.

Harvard extended their lead to 2-0, with a shorthanded opportunity that beat Matsoukas. The Dutchwomen responded nicely and just under two minutes later Union pulled within a goal.

Beaudoin took a great feed from Walsh and with a nice dangle through the defender's legs, she beat Pellicci, with a backhand shot. This was Beaudoin's first goal of the season. Union trailed 2-1 in the period and was out shot 8-7.

Beaudoin pulled the Dutchwomen level with the Crimson, just two minutes and twenty seconds in to the third period. Walsh centered a puck that deflected off of Adam's skate and slide right to Beaudoin who went high glove over the diving Pellicci to even the score at 2-2. Three periods were not enough time to decide the outcome, so they played into overtime.

Harvard dominated the overtime period, out shooting Union 4-0 in the five-minute stanza, including hitting the cross bar. Neither team was able to score after 65 minutes of game time and the game resulted in a 2-2 tie.

Union was out shot 30-23 for the game. Union was a perfect 4-4 on the penalty kill, but went 0-2 on the power-play.

The Dutchwomen (3-5-1, 0-2-1) will continue their weekend home stand when they welcome in ECAC opponent Dartmouth College to Messa Rink tomorrow afternoon. Puck drop is set for 3 p.m.
