SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The Union College women's tennis team dropped a 7-2 decision to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in a Liberty League matchup on a breezy Wednesday afternoon at the Union Tennis Courts.
First-year
Gabby Gatto and junior
Hallie Katzman provided highlights for Union (4-6, 2-4 Liberty League) by picking up straight-set singles victories. Gatto earned her 10th singles victory of the season with a 6-1, 6-4 triumph over Nitya Subramaniam at third singles, while Katzman improved to 8-4 in singles play this year with a 6-3, 6-0 win over Elly Klages at sixth singles.
Rensselaer (10-7, 4-2 Liberty League) swept the three doubles matches to take control of the contest early. Katzman's singles win was able to temporarily stave off defeat for the Dutchwomen after RPI won at first singles, but Brooke Bauer earned the clinching point for the Engineers at the fourth flight.
Union will look to rebound on Friday afternoon, when the team hosts Rochester Institute of Technology for a conference clash starting at 2 p.m. at the Union Tennis Courts.
