TROY, N.Y. – For the second time this season, senior captain
Hayden Frey of the #4 Union College men's lacrosse team was honored as the Liberty League Offensive Performer of the Week, the conference office announced on Monday afternoon.
Frey's award is his second of the year and is the fourth Offensive Performer of the Week award given to Union's trio of starting attackmen this season. In all, Union closes the regular season with nine weekly conference awards in nine weeks of play.
In Union's only game of the week, Frey tallied a game-high seven points on three goals and four assists as the Dutchmen closed out the regular season with a 22-4 win over Vassar on Saturday. The senior had a hand in seven of Union's first 17 goals before sitting out the entire fourth quarter.
Frey has already set a new career high with 55 points so far in his final season, ranking second on the team with 32 goals and adding a team- and career-best 23 assists. He also leads all Union attackers with 37 ground balls, good for sixth on the squad.
The senior has vaulted himself into seventh place on Union's all-time scoring list with 159 points, the highest point total by a Dutchman since Rob Santangelo '14 recorded 167 points from 2011-14. His 104 career goals are currently 10th in program history as well.
The Dutchmen, who once again remained fourth in both Division III national polls, will begin their postseason run on Wednesday, when they host St. Lawrence University in the Liberty League Tournament semifinals at 4 p.m. Check UnionAthletics.com tomorrow for a full tournament preview.
