TROY, N.Y. – For the second time in the last four weeks, senior attacker
Grace Heiting of the Union College women's lacrosse team was recognized by the Liberty League as the Co-Offensive Performer of the Week, the conference office announced on Monday afternoon.
Heiting was once again all over the field last week in helping Union clinch a Liberty League Tournament berth with two victories, scoring 12 goals with two assists and adding 10 ground balls, 12 draw controls and six caused turnovers in two games. She is the first Union player to earn multiple Offensive Performer of the Week honors in the same season since Emily McGrail '15 was named twice in 2015.
She started the week with five goals and two assists to go with six ground balls, seven draw controls and four caused turnovers in Wednesday's 20-4 win over Bard College, in the process becoming the 22nd player in program history to reach 100 career points. She then came back to score seven times on nine shots on Saturday in a 19-7 win over the University of Rochester. In total, 11 of her 12 goals came in the first half as the Dutchwomen built up big leads and allowed reserves to get more playing time in the second half.
Heiting finished the regular season with a career-high 69 points on 51 goals and 18 assists, and she currently leads all Liberty League players in goals per game (3.64) while ranking third in points per game (4.93) and sixth in assists per game (1.29). Her 69 points are tied for 13th on the school single-season list and her 51 goals already are tied for 10th best in a season at Union.
The senior currently sits two points away from a spot in the top-20 of Union's all-time scoring list with 108 points for her career.
Heiting and the Dutchwomen will continue their season on Tuesday, when the team heads east to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute for the first round of the Liberty League Tournament. Game time is set for 6 p.m. in Troy. Visit UnionAthletics.com tomorrow for a full tournament preview.
