SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The Union College men's soccer team opener the 2022 season with a 0-0 tie against the SUNY New Paltz Hawks on Thursday afternoon from College Park Field. Junior
Sean Speck made five saves in the tie.
In the first half the Hawks carried majority of the play but were unable to find the back of the net. The Dutchmen outshot the Hawks 4-3 in the half, but neither team was able to gain a lead. In the second half the Hawks outshot Union 10-3 in the half with a lot of pressure and ball control.
Union's best chance came with 15 minutes to go in the game when junior
Luca Richo found some space and lift the ball towards the back post and found classmate
Matt Dougherty, whose head ball just went over the cross bar. The teams tied 0-0.
Speck finished the game with five saves, including four in the second half to keep the clean sheet.
Union (0-0-1) will get back on the field on Sunday night when they continue their home stand against Russell Sage from College Park Field at 7:30 p.m.
