Union Makes History in 76-7 Win Over Worcester State

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The Union College football team made history in a 76-7 rout over Worcester State University Saturday afternoon at Frank Bailey Field at Bertagna-Class of 1985 Stadium.

The 76 points marks the most points in a game since November 10, 1894, when Union blanked Hamilton 96-0. Union also set a new program record with points scored on their home field, beating the previous 75-point mark set on November 1, 1891 when the Dutchmen shutout Syracuse 75-0.

Senior Andre Ross Jr. became the program leader with 35 receiving touchdowns with his 70-yard catch at 10:02 of the second quarter. Ross Jr. led all receivers with 131 yards on three receptions.

Union totaled 593 yards of offense, with 256 on the ground and 337 in the air, while holding the Lancers to -10 rushing yards and 169 total yards. Nine different Dutchmen found the endzone in the victory, with senior Ike Irabor leading the way with two trips for the score. First-year Nicholas Dunneman added 107 yards including a 70-yard touchdown reception.

For the second game in a row, the Dutchmen were perfect in the red zone, capitalizing on all seven chances.

Senior Donovan Pacatte went 12-for-16 with 303 yards and three touchdowns. He added his third rushing touchdown of the season on a two-yard scamper in the first quarter. Senior Stratton Sherman went 3-for-4 with 34 yards and a touchdown.

Senior Spencer Goldstien led the way defensively with 10 tackles, including a sack for a nine-yard loss and a pick with a nine-yard return. Junior Sam Batchelder and sophomore Naz Armor each added a sack in the defensive stand.

The Dutchmen opened the scoring in the first drive of the game on a five-yard rush by Irabor. The Lancers responded in the following drive on a 65-yard pass by quarterback Aaron-Moses Williams to Dylan Hall. After a 27-yard punt return by senior Kevin Rabacs, Pacatte found Dunneman on a 70-yard pass to retake the lead. The Lancers were forced to punt in the following drive, and Dunneman nearly found the endzone again. On a 66-yard return, Brodie Jacques forced the fumble, and sophomore Azarai Lewis recovered the ball and found the endzone. Union added one more touchdown in the first quarter to take a commanding 27-7 lead.

Union kept the pressure on the Lancers as the Dutchmen added four more touchdowns in the second frame with sophomores Sha'zir Sullivan and Jonathan Anderson and junior Michael Fiore all putting points on the board to take a 54-7 lead into the locker room at halftime.

Irabor added his second touchdown of the day in the third stanza on a seven-yard run. Sophomore Jon Rust picked up his first collegiate touchdown on an eight-yard carry.

Sophomore Robbie Tolbert added his first touchdown of the season in the fourth quarter on a 19-yard pass from Sherman. The quarterback was successful on the two-point conversion.

Union will head to Springfield College next week for a non-conference tilt with the Pride in a 12:00 p.m. showdown at Stagg Field.
