HANOVER, N.H. – Dartmouth College women's hockey scored three power-play goals in a 1:42 span to come from behind and topple the Union College women's hockey team on Friday evening from Thompson Arena.
Sophomore
Maren Friday scored her fifth goal of the season. Senior
Olivia Groulx and first-year
Greta Kropp grabbed assists on the goal.
Friday scored the game's first goal at the 8:42 mark of the first period. Kropp carried the puck into the offense zone before passing back to Groulx at the point. Groulx fired a shot at the net. Friday corralled the rebound and buried the puck into the open goal for a 1-0 lead.
With under four minutes to play in the period, senior
Carmen Merlo was whistled for interference and after review she was assessed a five-minute major for a hit to the head and a 10-minute game misconduct. The Big Green scored twice in the final minute of the period, with both goals coming on the power-play. Union trailed 2-1 after 20 minutes.
Dartmouth scored another power-play goal to start the second period, that gave them a 3-1 lead over Union through 40 minutes.
The Dutchwomen had a 5 on 3 to open the third period, but were unable to convert on the opportunity and ultimately fell to the Big Green 3-1. Union was out shot 38-24 in the game.
Sophomore
Sophie Matsoukas made 35 saves on 38 shots in the loss for Union. The Dutchwomen went 0-4 on the power-play and 1-4 on the penalty kill.
Union will look to snap their five-game skid tomorrow, Saturday January 21, at Bright-Landry Hockey Center as they face off against the Crimson of Harvard. Puck drop is set for 3 p.m.
