Union Falls to RPI 2-1

TROY, N.Y. – The Union College women's hockey team fell 2-1 to the Engineers of RPI on Friday afternoon from Houston Field House. Sophomore Sophie Matsoukas stopped 31 of 33 shots in the effort and junior Meredith Killian scored Union's lone goal.

Killian found the back of the net for her fourth goal of the season and sophomore Ashley Adams tallied her eighth assist of the season on the goal.

The Engineers found the back of the net at the 13:44 mark of the first period after a turnover in front of the net. RPI jumped out to an early 1-0 lead.

The Dutchwomen responded well and scored 3:35 minutes later to pull even. Senior Emily King dumped the puck into the zone. Sophomore Paige Greco forced an RPI turnover below the goal line. Adams centered the loose puck and Killian blasted home the puck from the slot.

The Engineers dominated the majority of the period, out shooting Union 14-5 in the first frame.

In the second period neither team found the back of the net. Union went 0-2 on the power-play in the second period but outshot RPI 10-7.

In the third frame, Union killed out the remaining 16 seconds of Killian's penalty and RPI scored just eight seconds later and 24 seconds into the period to take a 2-1 lead. RPI kept Union at bay for the remainder of the period, out shooting them 12-10 for the period.
