Krebs' Late-Game Winner Sends Union Past Keene State 2-1

KEENE, N.H. – Senior Grace Krebs scored the game-winning goal with less than a minute remaining to propel the Union College field hockey team to a 2-1 comeback victory over Keene State College in the team's 2023 regular-season finale on Saturday afternoon.

Union (11-7) needed to come back to earn their third straight victory to end the regular season, getting second-half goals from Krebs and first-year Maddie Greco to pull out the win. At the other end of the field, sophomore Sophie Brady made a season-high eight saves to earn the victory.

Keene State posted a 7-5 edge in shots in the first half and scored the only goal of the half, coming in the 19th minute off the stick of Grace Bazin.

Greco evened the score in the 36th minute, taking a deflected feed by sophomore Megan Dorsey and batting the ball out of midair and into the net for her team-leading 13th goal of the season. The first-year, who already owns the school record for goals by a rookie, moved into a tie for eighth place overall in single-season goals at Union.

Brady made four saves to keep the game tied in third quarter before the visitors took over in the fourth.

It took nearly the entire frame, but Union earned its deserved result after outshooting the Owls by a 9-0 margin over the final 15 minutes. On the visitors' fourth straight penalty corner, Krebs inserted the ball to Dorsey at the top of the arc and then went to the front of the net, where she corralled a deflected shot and found the net with 51 ticks remaining.

With the win, Union reached the 11-win plateau for the second-straight season and has recorded at least 11 wins in back-to-back years for only the third time in program history.

Union will look to carry the momentum into the postseason, as the Garnet Chargers make their first conference tournament appearance since 2010 on Tuesday at 6 p.m. at Vassar College. A full postseason preview will be available early next week on UnionAthletics.com.
