Defense Provide the Scoring in Union's 2-0 Victory at Bard

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - The Union College men's soccer team continued their strong season Saturday, picking up their sixth win of the season in their win over Bard, 2-0.

The sixth win and third victory in Liberty League play defeat the program's totals from a year ago. The third consecutive win makes it three straight victories for the first time since October 20th through 27th, 2021.

Junior Alan Daniel scored first for the Garnet Chargers for the second consecutive game, making it back-to-back gamewinners for the defenseman.

In the 12th minute, Union set up in their own end for a throw-in from senior Christian Rufo. After he lofted his long toss into the box, a header from a Bard defender back towards his own net was finished off by a lunging Daniel past the oncoming goalkeeper and just inside the post.

22 minutes later, it was Rufo's turn to find the back of the net. Union set up another set piece, as Junior Lucas Crowley sent in a laser of a free kick to the box from about halfway to midfield. Rufo was placed perfectly right in the middle of the box, and sent his header home to make it 2-0. It would be Rufo's first goal since October 27th, 2021- also the second goal in Union's 2-1 victory that day at Bard.

Bard came on strong with a 6-3 shot advantage in the second half, but only one shot from each side was placed on goal. Reigning Liberty League Rookie of the Week Paul Agne made four saves en route to his fourth shutout of his young career.

Union (6-4-2, 3-0-0) will now prepare for the toughest task of their season, set to come next weekend. The Garnet Chargers are set to host fellow second place holder Ithaca at 4:00 PM on Friday before first place Hobart comes to Schenectady on Saturday
