Matt McCorkle Named AFCA All-America

WACO, Texas – Junior Union College football team offensive lineman Matt McCorkle was named to the 2023 AFCA Division III Coaches All-America second team, announced today by the American Football Coaches Association.

McCorkle is the 12th AFCA All-American in program history and the third member of the offensive line to be honored.

"We are extremely proud and happy for Matt," said assistant coach Pete Brown '83. "He has started every game for three years and that is very rare at offensive line. It is a testament to his abilities that he received this honor as a junior."

McCorkle has started in every game since joining the program in fall 2021. This season, McCorkle moved from left guard to left tackle. He allowed only one individual sack in 12 contests while anchoring an offensive line that conceded under one sack per game as a unit. Overall, Union ranked 13th in Division III by rushing for 235.0 yards per game and averaged more than 430.0 total offensive yards per contest. The offensive line was key as Union boasted a pair of 1,000-yard rushers in the same season for the first time in program history and only the 27th pair in Division III.

McCorkle earned a spot on the All-Liberty League first team and a spot on the D3ftooball.come All-Region First Team for his efforts this season.

In this year's All-American class, he is one of two Liberty League student-athletes to be recognized, joining Ithaca defensive back Derek Slywka on the All-America Second Team.
