Union Rolls Past RIT, 78-49, in Road Finale

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Seniors Brian Noone and Chris Lovisolo led four double-digit scorers with a game-high 18 points each as the Union College men's basketball team rolled past Rochester Institute of Technology by a 78-49 score in the team's final road game of the 2022-23 season on Saturday afternoon at Memorial Gymnasium.

Lovisolo posted a double-double of 18 points and a game-high 10 rebounds for Union (5-18, 4-12 Liberty League), hitting 7-of-11 shots from the field and adding two blocks, two steals and two assists to record his second double-double in the last three outings. Noone hit 9-of-16 shots from the field on the way to his 18-point afternoon.

Junior Edward Baptiste also came close to a double-double of his own, registering 16 points and nine boards to go with four assists and two blocks. Senior Mike Manley also reached double figures with 10 points and added five caroms.

Union had one of its best shooting nights of the season against the Tigers, hitting 35 of 68 attempts from the field (51.5 percent) and posting a commanding 44-20 edge in scoring in the paint.

The visitors started the game strong on both ends of the court, hitting 6-of-10 field goal attempts and keeping RIT (9-14, 5-11 Liberty League) without a field goal for the first five minutes in jumping out to a 14-4 lead. Lovisolo single-handedly outscored the Tigers 8-4 during the early run. A quick 10-0 run later in the frame bookended by three-pointers from junior Luke McGarrity extended the lead to 17 (32-15) with 3:12 on the clock, and Union went into halftime with a 38-21 lead thanks to a pair of last-minute jumpers by Noone.

A 10-2 run to start the second half bumped the lead up past 20 points for the first time and Union did not stop after that, surging ahead with an 18-3 stretch over the span of 6:16 to build up its largest lead of the afternoon at 72-33 following a Lovisolo layup with 6:24 on the clock. Baptiste scored 14 of his 16 points in the second half to lead the Union surge, as the visitors connected at a 54.5 percent (18 of 33) clip in the second stanza.

Union will close out the regular season at home next weekend, beginning on Friday night with a 7:30 p.m. matchup against Clarkson University at Viniar Athletic Center.
