LEBANON, N.J. – The Union College women's tennis team battled hard against Division I Lafayette College on Sunday afternoon before eventually falling by a 7-0 score in non-conference action at the Courtside Racquet Club.

Lafayette (4-3) started the day by sweeping the three doubles matches to take the first point of the afternoon. Union (1-3) hung with the Leopards for much of singles play, sending one match to a supertiebreaker and coming one break short of another match going the distance as well.

The closest match of the way came at fifth singles, where
Claire Langille almost battled back from a set down to win. After dropping the first set 6-3, the first-year took the second set by a 6-4 score from Halle Denardo and then came up just short in a marathon supertiebreaker, falling by a 12-10 score.

At third singles, sophomore
Gabby Gatto battled Melanie Sparhawk to a pair of 6-4 sets, missing out on one decisive break in each frame.

Union will take the next few weeks off from competition before returning to the courts on Spring Break, beginning their time in Hilton Head, S.C., against Millikin University on March 19.
