HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The Union College women's tennis team finished up its 2023 Spring Break trip one match short of an undefeated week, as the squad dropped a 9-0 match to undefeated Carleton College on Wednesday afternoon at Chaplin Community Park.
 
Going up against a strong Carleton (11-0) team that hadn't tasted defeat all season long, Union (4-4) fought hard in several matches but ultimately could not come up with a victory.
 
All three doubles matches finished with the same score, as the Knights used a trio of 8-3 victories to take control of the match early.
 
Three different singles matches saw Union come up a break short in the first set, including at both the first and second singles flights in matches that might have been able to turn the tide. Junior Gracie Nicol had the most competitive singles match of the day, falling 6-4, 6-3 to Mary Hose at second singles.
 
Union will head back to Schenectady for its opening weekend of the spring conference season next weekend, taking on Ithaca College on Saturday, April 1 beginning at 11 a.m. at the Union Tennis Courts.
