Women's Lacrosse Eases Past Bard, 21-3

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. – Thirteen different players found the net as the Union College women's lacrosse team cruised to a 21-3 victory over Bard College in Liberty League action on Wednesday evening at Ferrari Field.

The win moves Union (9-5, 5-4 Liberty League) back into a three-way tie for fourth place in the conference standings with one game remaining. A win in Saturday's regular-season finale at the University of Rochester would clinch a postseason berth and a home game in the first round of the Liberty League Tournament.

Senior Sydney McPartlon posted a game-high four points for Union with three goals and an assist, followed by junior Dana Nelson with a career-best-tying three goals of her own. Sophomores Greta Maurer (one goal, two assists) and Sarah Murphy (two goals, one assist) both added three points as well for the visitors, while three players – senior Dana Truini and first-years Maddie Doyle and Christina Guanci – chipped in two goals apiece.

Senior Elena Gerrato and juniors Anna Smith and Nicole Turpin all added a goal and an assist for two points, and seniors Drew Charlton and Katie Julien as well as sophomore Morgan Adams all scored once.

Union did not waste much time on Wednesday, with McPartlon and Julien scoring on the team's first two possessions just 13 seconds apart. After Sarah Child got Bard (1-13, 0-10 Liberty League) on the board, the visitors scored the final five goals of the opening frame. Six players scored the team's seven goals in the first 15 minutes.

The second stanza saw Union outscore Bard 5-1 to reach a 10-goal margin at the half. Maurer had a team-leading two points in the period with a goal and an assist, and Doyle capped the frame by scoring with one second left from the eight-meter arc.

Union scored the only six goals of the third quarter and then added three of the fourth quarter's four tallies to close out the contest. Murphy (two goals) and Gerrato (one goal, one assist) led the team with two points each in the third, while Guanci, Adams and Turpin finished off the scoring in the final frame.

Union posted a 45-7 edge in shots, with junior Hannah Dubinsky making two saves to earn the victory. The visitors also posted an 18-9 edge in draw controls, helped by six from Truini and four from Adams, and limited Bard to a 7-of-18 effort in clearing attempts.

Union will close out the regular season on Saturday with a 2 p.m. matchup at the University of Rochester.
