Union Challenges #2 Williams, Falls 2-0

WILLIAMSTOWN, M.A. - The Union College men's soccer team visited #2 Williams College Tuesday night and fell by a score of 2-0.

Williams pressured the visiting Garnet Chargers early, and Tate Michelson turned a second minute handball inside the penalty box into a 1-0 Ephs lead from the penalty spot.

It was a physical, tightly contested contest that saw 28 total fouls called and seven cards given in the game. Union hung right with the powerhouse Ephs throughout, before Evan Vasquez added the hosts' second goal just past the 75th minute mark to put the Garnet Chargers away.

Senior Kurt Mahlke and reigning Liberty League Rookie of the Week Marco Perugini each led Union with two shots and one each on goal. First year goalkeeper Paul Agne did his best to keep his team in the game, stopping four shots, including an additional penalty chance.

Union (2-4-1) opens up Liberty League play on Saturday, when they host Vassar. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 PM at College Park Field.
