SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – Junior
Wyatt Goldfisher scored twice to lead the Union College men's soccer team to a 3-1 victory over Western New England University Wednesday evening at College Park Field.
First-year
Marco Perugini opened the scoring with his first collegiate goal at 7:40 of the contest. From midfield, first-year
Noah Goldstein drove the ball deep into the offensive end where senior
Evan Farr made a short pass to Perugini in front for the score.
The Golden Bears struck back at 20:06 with a goal scored on a free kick by Mike Riley.
Coming off the bench, Goldfisher made an immediate impact later in the first half. On a corner kick, junior
Lucas Crowley gained possession on the outside corner of the box, sending a shot right in front that Goldfisher redirected in to give Union a 2-1 lead. Goldfisher wasn't finished as he capitalized on a timely header on a free kick to make it a 3-1 game.
Both teams had several great chances in the second half, but the goalkeepers on each team held on for a scoreless half.
First-year
Paul Agne debuted in goal for Union and made four saves.
Union is back in action on Saturday with a road tilt SUNY New Paltz. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. at South Turf Field.
