NEWBURGH, N.Y. – The Union College baseball team fell 6-5 in the ninth inning in a non-conference game with Mount Saint Mary College Tuesday afternoon at MSMC Baseball/Softball Complex.
Sophomore
Caleb Miller and senior
Thomas Parisi extended their active hit streaks to 23 games and 15 games, respectively.

Liam McIlroy led the way for the Garnet Chargers with three hits. Senior
Sebastian Pike and junior
Sam Strazza added two hits each.
Union loaded the bases in the second inning from a pair of walks and a single by Strazza. Senior
Ryan Cowles hit a sac fly to center field to put Union up 1-0.
Union extended the lead with two runs in the fourth frame. Pike hit a solo homerun into left field to leadoff the inning for his fourth blast of the year. Sophomore
JT Psirogianes hit a line drive to right field and stole second to get into scoring position. Cowles hit an RBI single into center field to put Union up 3-0.
The Knights scored twice in the bottom of the fourth inning before tacking on three runs in the fifth to take a 5-3 lead. A bases-loaded RBI single drove in a pair of runs. A wild pitch saw a runner cross home. A strikeout and a doubleplay by the defense ended the inning.
Trailing in the seventh, senior
Kobe Mentzer drew a walk and stole second. A timely triple by Miller cut the lead to one.
Union tied the game up in the bottom of the ninth beginning with a leadoff double by McIlroy. A bunt single by Parisi moved McIlroy to third. Mentzer sent a sac fly to left field to tie the game at five apiece. Union put runners on the corners, but could not get the go ahead run across.
The Knights hit a one-out single to right field and put a runner in scoring position off a wild pitch. An RBI single into left field gave the home team the walk off win.
In a bullpen game for Union, junior
Owen Lewandowski is tagged with the loss with one run on two hits and a strikeout in 1.1 innings of work. Sophomore
Jack Klein turned in two scoreless innings with zero hits and three strikeouts. Sophomore
Alex Oppenheimer and junior
Will Collins each pitched a scoreless and hitless inning. Junior
Alex Erickson started for Union and struck out two with two hits in a scoreless inning.
Union hosts Russell Sage College tomorrow in the first game under the lights at Central Park A Diamond. Fans are asked to come early for a pre-game ceremony beginning at 6:30 p.m. marking the occasion complete with a ceremonial first pitch from Schenectady Mayor Gary McCarthy. First pitch against the Gators is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
